You downloaded a voice changer, set it up, and started talking… but your friends on Discord say you still sound like you. Frustrating, right? Don’t uninstall the app yet. The issue is usually a simple setting in Discord. Here is how to fix it in 60 seconds.
Fix 1: Change Your Input Device (Most Common Fix) Discord defaults to your physical microphone. You need to tell it to listen to the “Fake” microphone created by your app.
- Open Discord User Settings (exclude gear icon).
- Go to Voice & Video.
- Under Input Device, change it from “Default” to “Voicemod Virtual Audio Device” (or Clownfish/VB-Audio).
Fix 2: Turn Off “Input Sensitivity” Discord is smart—sometimes too smart. It tries to filter out background noise, and it might mistake your robot voice for “noise” and mute it.
- Go to Voice & Video.
- Scroll down to Input Sensitivity.
- Turn OFF the toggle that says “Automatically determine input sensitivity.”
- Adjust the slider manually until the bar lights up green when you speak.
Fix 3: Check Windows Permissions Sometimes Windows blocks apps from using your mic for privacy.
- Go to Windows Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
- Ensure “Allow desktop apps to access your microphone” is turned ON.
Fix 4: Restart Discord as Administrator Fully close Discord (check your system tray) and right-click the icon > Run as Administrator. This gives it permission to hook into your audio drivers properly.
