How to repost content from feed to story?
Instagram has its own inbuilt repost feature for reposting content from someone’s feed to your Instagram story within a few clicks.
This feature gives automatic credit to the original creator of the content, so if anyone who clicks on your Instagram story can visit the post of the original creator.
How to do that? Here is the complete step by step guide.
- Open the Instagram app on your phone and find any Instagram post, reel you want to repost on your story
- Click on the share icon button at the bottom of the post, next to the like and comment buttons
- Click on the add to story option
- Tap anywhere on the preview screen to show/hide the original pos’s caption
- Add your text, sticker, location, hashtag etc
- When you are ready to share, click your story to post it. Alternatively, click on close friends if you want to show the story to your closed friends only
- Add the repost to your Instagram story highlights to make it permanent. When someone visits your Instagram profile, they can see the repost content on your profile in the highlights section. Stories disappear after 24 hours
Note – You can only use the repost of your story feature if the original creator has a public profile and has allowed resharing.
How to repost from Story to Story
You can also use the one-click repost feature to repost someone’s story to your own story.
But it will be available if the original story tagged you/ mentioned you in his/her story.
Here is how to do this.
- Open the direct inbox of your Instagram account and look for a mention tag
- Find the story you want to repost and tap on Add this to your story
- In the preview screen, you can resize and edit the story
- Click your story to repost it when you are ready

Unfortunately, the one click repost feature is only applicable for stories when someone mentioned you in the story. This trick will not work when you try to repost a feed or reel.
There is another method, you can take the screenshot of the feed post and then repost it on your story, for reels you can download the Instagram reel and then repost on your account.
But some 3rd party apps allow you to repost a reel or feed directly to your account as it is without making so much effort.
Firstly, see the manual process first, then I will disclose some apps you can use to speed things up later.
- Find the post you want to repost, take the screenshot of the image and it will be saved to your gallery automatically
- If you want to repost a reel or video, you will need to record it using a screen recording app. Generally, you get the option of screen recording on your phone by default, or you can download a third-party screen recording app for your Android or iPhone from the Google Play Store or App Store.
- Now go back to your home page and click on the + icon to create a new post
- Select the screenshot or the screen recording you saved in your gallery, upload it
- Crop and resize it so that only the image/ video remains in it and the extra part and things are not visible in it
- Edit it and add any Instagram filter you want
- Add a caption and @mention the original poster to give them credit
- Click on the share button to post it to your Instagram account feed
Note – If you repost the feed manually, it won’t give automatic credit to the original creator. Make sure you always give credit to the original creator by adding their @username in the caption and tag them also, or makean Instagram collaboration with them.

The only way to repost someone’s story to your feed is with the manual process, which is by taking the screenshot of the story.
However, you can repost from your own story to your feed using Instagram’s native one click reposting feature:
- Firstly, open your Instagram story
- Click on more by tapping on the 3 dots on the bottom right corner of your screen
- Click share as post
- Edit and add filters as needed, then click on the next button
